Poster House’s
Reimagined
Gift Shop

in my Placemaking, Wayfinding and Environmental Graphics course at FIT, i was tasked to create a vignette of a store for a museum or non-profit organization. In groups, we proposed a concept, and then will design a sales counter and graphics, including signage, posters, a catalog, a website and point of purchase (POP) display.

alongside some great friends and classmates, we decided to reimagine the already existing store that resides in the Poster House museum, along with a small face lift to it’s cafe. Poster House is the first museum in the United States dedicated exclusively to the art and history of posters. It is dedicated to presenting the impact, culture, and design of posters, both as historical documents and methods of contemporary visual communication. Through temporary exhibitions, a growing permanent collection, and educational events, Poster House explores the enormous impact of posters on society and culture, and how they have been adapted to contemporary use.

the project required me to do research on the museum, creating a concept, group collaboration on the graphic identity, mocking-up a website, creating window and back wall signage along with rendering a store with a sales counter and POP display, collateral products, and creating 3D components of back wall signage and whatever else we plan to have within the space.

this was a group project of four all together. that said, my concept was chosen to move forward with (CMYK color palette , as anything printed is converted into a CMYK format), and i was in charge of making our design toolkit, the guerilla marketing tactics, some graphic collateral products, the required 3D assets, and the presentation deck.

i utilized Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Canva to create this project.

Poster House has a kid’s section in the lower level of the building. there, you will find a wall that contains a slider system. each slider is designated to a color from CMYK, and when lined up all together, it creates a photo or design. i tried to replicate the same concept here with a miniature, almost hand-held version. i utilized materials like MDF board and acrylic, and learned how to score MDF the right way.

here is the 3D version of one of our back wall panels alongside an edited process video.
