Ramallosa

Ramallosa is a feastival that my family’s hometown, Celanova, celebrates every first Saturday of August. the whole town’s electric is shut off and almost 15.000 handmade paper lanterns are passed out and made that light the village. it honors a previous pilgrimage of the Virgen de la Encarnación (Virgin of the Incarnation), remembering a successful harvesting of the crops.

it has since become the star of the town and what everybody looks forward to every year, and personally, it’s my favorite day of the year. the youth come together into groups and work on one big float, the “farol." it’s usually inspired by a significant event that happened prior that year. the following are farols that I personally worked on, from t-shirt designs to the execution of the farol itself.

Ramallosa 2022: Un Verano Sin Ti

Puerto Rican icon Bad Bunny’s album, Un Verano Sin Ti, was the theme for this year’s farol. i started conceptualizing in May of 2022, and came up with the idea “Una Ramallosa Sin Ti.” The shirt design consisted of the frowning heart character, the red and yellow typeface treatment, and the purple dolphins: all inspired from the album art. this was also reflected in the float.

Ramallosa 2023: Feliz Ramallosa Ferxxo

Columbian icon Feid’s single, Feliz Cumpleaños Ferxxo, was the theme for this year’s farol. i came up with the idea “Feliz Ramallosa Ferxxo.” The shirt design consisted of the icon birthday cake, Feid’s well-known green palette, and his graphic ghost and sunglasses designs: all inspired from the single and his then album, Feliz Cumpleaños Ferxxo Te Pirateamos El Álbum, art. this was also reflected in the float.
